The role of the Youth Worker is to support, design and develop engagement, wellbeing and social inclusion responses and program activities for the school that directly enhance the engagement of the young people that attend the school. All program activities are to complement the educational programs and support the engagement of young peoples learning at the school. The position involves working directly with children and young people on a daily basis and therefore must be able to demonstrate an understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children. All young people are owed a duty of care while in the supervision of the position.
ABOUT YOU
- A Working with Children Clearance Notice
- Tertiary qualifications at Certificate level or equivalent qualifications relevant for a Youth Support Worker or such knowledge and experience to successfully carry out the duties of this position.
- Sound level of verbal and written communication skills, including participating in meeting processes, report writing, case notes and negotiation skills.
- Skills in computing (especially word processing, Internet) and skills, or the ability to develop skills in database use.
- Proven ability to work under limited supervision and in an integrated manner as a member of a multi- disciplinary team.
- Current Cert IV TAE or willing to obtain.
- Experience in Music, Work Placement of Sport would be advantageous
- Current driver’s licence (essential)
- An understanding of and commitment to principles of social justice
- Understanding of current youth work practice, trends and issues in service provision to marginalised young people particularly within the alternate education sector
