ABOUT US
The Townsville Flexible School offers a full-time and multiyear secondary education program for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling. Young people typically express a broad range of complex education and social needs, and Flexible Schools respond with a variety of flexible and innovative teaching and learning practices, including vocational planning and the development of social connectedness. The Townsville Flexible School was established in 2006 to meet the needs of the local community. In 2019 the Burdekin and Bowen Educational Engagement Programs were established after many years of local consultation. These new programs are campuses of the Townsville Flexible School and run programs for grades 7-10. We are expected to grow from one class group to several in the next few years.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM AND ROLE
The young people who attend our programs have typically experienced significant detachment from education and social inclusion and may be involved with the Department of Youth Justice and/or Children Safety.

There are strong working relationships between the campuses and travel between them may be required. The daily program with young people will include on-site and off-site activities. You will be required to:
- Maintain and build effective working relationships with local custodians, local schools, Government and non-Government agencies, private providers and community members.
- Develop and implement learning choices (curriculum) which support the individual learning plans of each young person.
- Participate in program provision to ensure wellbeing in an inclusive learning environment.
- Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a supportive school environment.
- Participate in professional development that is relevant to the work of the campus - this may include the need to travel to Townsville or Brisbane.
- Contribute to the accountability processes including, reporting, individual personal learning plans and requirements for NCCD.
- Work in and as part of a multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary supportive learning team.
