ABOUT THE ORGANISATION:
Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) Flexible Schools Ltd currently educates over 2,500 young people in 21 Flexible Learning Schools (12 based in Queensland and 9 other schools across Australia) and two Special Education Services Schools in NSW, with approximately 800 staff nationally. We’re excited to share that the Darwin campus of St Joseph’s Catholic Flexible School is preparing to open its doors, offering a new opportunity for Young People in the Northern Territory.
Our schools provide a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for Young People who have experienced barriers to education. Here at Flexis, we focus on helping students reconnect with learning, build confidence, and feel part of a caring community.
As part of the national EREA Flexible Schools network, and building on the success of our Alice Springs campus, Darwin will offer relationship-based, trauma-informed education that meets each student where they are.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Staff are expected to work within the framework of common ground and demonstrate the ability to work under the four principles of operation; Respect, Honesty, Participation and Safe and Legal.
To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.
The typical duties of the role may include:
- Supporting effective learning and teaching programs for young people in both middle and senior phases of secondary education
- Promote and support the physical health and emotional wellbeing of the young people
- Contributing to the development and implementation of the Flexible School’s objectives and planning
- Contributing to the maintenance of a supportive and inclusive school environment with specific consideration for First Nations Young People
- Build relationships and collaborate with the school, staff, young people and their families in relation to planning, actions and achieving outcomes
- Support young people to engage with relevant external agencies through appropriate referral pathways and stakeholder meetings
- Create and maintain connections and working arrangements with key stakeholders, elders, First Nations community and agency organisations
- Liaise with staff and young people to coordinate activities and educational opportunities that acknowledge Sorry Day, Reconciliation Week, NAIDOC Week and other significant events
- Advise school leadership team on matters effecting First Nations community, young people and families

ABOUT YOU
- Understanding of and commitment to the values of a Catholic educational system of schools in the Edmund Rice tradition
- Able to demonstrate the high-level communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills necessary to be successful in a complex and layered organisational structure
- Ability to diagnose problems, foresee potential issues and devise appropriate responses
- Ability to lead, work in, and collaborate across teams with integrity and humility
- Deep knowledge of and experience in First Nations Culture and Community
Requirements of the Role
- To fulfil the role, a person must hold and maintain a current Queensland Working with Children Clearance (Blue Card).
- No formal qualification or previous experience is required, however, a Certificate qualification or higher is highly desirable or previous experience in a similar role.
