ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
The Edmund Rice Flexi School is a campus of Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA). Our school provides an educational and wellbeing service for young people aged 12 – 21 years of age. Edmund Rice Flexi is centrally co- located at the Elizabeth TAFE Campus and aims to re-engage young people who are looking to access a different way of learning. Fundamental to our operation are the principles of Respect, Participation, Honesty and Safe & Legal. Staff and young people come together on ‘common ground’ where everyone has a voice in making decisions and establishing working agreements to foster a positive environment where young people can achieve positive educational and wellbeing outcomes.
What is the role?
The role of the Youth Worker within our school is to support, design and develop engagement, wellbeing and social inclusion responses and program activities for the school that directly enhance the engagement of the young people that attend the school. All program activities complement the educational programs on offer and support the engagement of young peoples learning at the school. Some of these programs include outdoor adventure-based learning, sports and self-reflection workshops.

Key Responsibilities include:

- Knowledge and understanding of key issues for contemporary youth culture to be able to identify potential barriers impacting on young people and their families in the wider community.
- Ability to identify barriers to young people engaging in activities and adapt programs accordingly.
- Promote the values and principles of the school to ensure inclusion, empowerment and youth development when developing and implementing program activities.
- Commitment to work under the four principles of operation, Respect, Safe and Legal, Honesty and Participation to establish a “common ground” to resolve conflict, negotiate learning, recognise rights, where responsibilities and consequences are modelled and explored.
About you:
Essential:

- A Working with Children Clearance Notice
- Current driver’s licence (essential) or Light Rigid license (highly desirable)
- Previous experience in the youth sector with knowledge and understanding of the local First Nations communities
Highly Desirable:
-
- An understanding of and commitment to principles of social justice
- Understanding of current youth work practice, trends and issues in service provision to marginalised young people particularly within the alternate education sector
- Sound level of verbal and written communication skills, including participating in meeting processes, report writing and negotiation skills
- Skills in computing (especially word processing, Internet) and skills, or the ability to develop skills in database.
- Proven ability to work autonomously and in an integrated manner as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Qualifications at Degree, Diploma or Certificate level with Social Work/Youth Work experience (or working towards a qualification) or equivalent life experience
