ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
FAME is a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition with approximately 100 young people enrolled. There are 21 Flexible Schools throughout Australia who offer a full-time and multiyear secondary education program for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling. Enrolled young people may express a broad range of complex education and social needs and FLCs respond with a variety of flexible and innovative teaching and learning practices including vocational planning and the development of social connectedness.
The purpose of a Flexible Schools is to provide young people with a varied and holistic set of learning experiences supporting them to identify and pursue an individual transition to adulthood, employment, further education and training and social connectedness.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The role of the Youth Worker is to support, design and develop engagement, wellbeing and social inclusion responses and program activities for the school that directly enhance the engagement of the young people that attend the school. All program activities are to complement the educational programs and support the engagement of young peoples’ learning at the school. The position involves working directly with children and young people on a daily basis and therefore must be able to demonstrate an understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children. All young people are owed a duty of care while in the supervision of the position. This position acts under the direction of the Head of Campus/ Area Principal.

ABOUT YOU
- Relevant tertiary studies, Youth/Social Work Cert IV, and/or equivalent.
- Previous experience in in the youth sector.
- DCSI Working with Children Clearance - imperative and Catholic Clearance letter
- Current drivers licence essential, light rigid – desirable or eligibility to obtain.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience.
The youth worker works collaboratively and is supported by Teachers, Youth Workers, Head of Campus and the Regional Team and Area Principal. The youth worker in this position is required to:
- Demonstrated competency involving self-directed application of knowledge with substantial depth in youth work practice.
- Proven ability to support engagement, wellbeing and social inclusion for the young people.
- Proven ability to support staff and young people in providing activities/programs.
- Proven ability to analyse complex situations and implementation of appropriate strategies to enhance the professional practice of teaching and non-teaching staff.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with all staff to provide a safe, conducive work environment for staff and young people.
- Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, to work collaboratively and establish and maintain professional relationships with all stakeholders.
- Ability to operate within the context of EREA Policies and Procedures.
