Aboriginal Teaching Assistant - Geraldton Flexible School
- Continuing, Full-time
- Start: 28 January 2026
ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
Geraldton Flexible School is a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition. There are 21 Flexible Schools throughout Australia who offer a full-time and multiyear secondary education program for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling. Enrolled young people may express a broad range of complex education and social needs and flexible schools respond with a variety of flexible and innovative teaching and learning practices including vocational planning and the development of social connectedness.
The purpose of a Flexible School is to provide young people with a varied and holistic set of learning experiences supporting them to identify and pursue an individual transition to adulthood, employment, further education and training and social connectedness.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The main role of the Aboriginal Engagement and Enrolment Assistant is to make connections within the community to support First Nations young people who are not attending school to re-engage in their education. The role will provide support to the parents and guardians in the enrolments process through to providing ongoing support through, wellbeing and social inclusion responses and program activities for the school that directly enhance the engagement of the young people that attend the school.
All program activities are to complement the educational programs and support the engagement of young peoples’ learning at the school. The position involves working directly with children and young people on a daily basis and therefore must be able to demonstrate an understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children. All young people are owed a duty of care while in the supervision of the position.
To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.
This position acts under the direction of the Area Principal reporting through the Head of Campus or Delegate.
