ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

Geraldton Flexible School is a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition. There are 21 Flexible Schools throughout Australia who offer a full-time and multiyear secondary education program for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling. Enrolled young people may express a broad range of complex education and social needs and flexible schools respond with a variety of flexible and innovative teaching and learning practices including vocational planning and the development of social connectedness.

The purpose of a Flexible School is to provide young people with a varied and holistic set of learning experiences supporting them to identify and pursue an individual transition to adulthood, employment, further education and training and social connectedness.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Teacher reports to the Head of Campus. They work collaboratively with all staff. They have delegated responsibility to develop and maintain learning and social inclusion responses of the campus. This includes but not limited to:

  • Planning, preparation and delivery of engaging learning and teaching programs for young people in the middle and secondary phase of secondary education, creating flexible, innovative curriculum to engage students, including project-based learning and engagement activities.
  • Plan and effectively implement class and individual student learning programs that meet all legislative requirements with respect to young people with learning difficulties and disabilities i.e. Disability Discrimination Act, Disability Standards for Education, National Consistent Collection of Data, National Disability Insurance Scheme through by:
    • collating NCCD data and evidence to improve young people’s outcomes.
    • set goals and implement targeted adjustments for Young People IEPs and monitoring progress and reviewing strategies.
  • Build learning programs that reflect the diversity within the classroom and design learning experiences that cater for individuals with specific needs.
  • To ensure young people are provided with a learning program that maximizes their outcomes (academically, behaviorally and/or socially) through the development of Individual Learning Plans for each young person; and contribute to the ongoing evaluation of the ILP process.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of the FLS’s objectives and planning.
  • Contributing to the establishment and maintenance of a supportive school environment.

ABOUT YOU

  • Understanding of and commitment to the values of a Catholic educational system of schools in the Edmund Rice tradition.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in working with young people disenfranchised from mainstream education.
  • Have skills and knowledge in teaching processes, framework and practice.
  • Applicants must hold or have the ability to attain a WA Working with Children Check before commencement as per legislation.
  • Local travel (including minivan driving) is a requirement of this position therefore it is a requirement that the applicant hold a current 'C' driver’s license and required to drive a bus.
  • Current First Aid or willingness to obtain.
  • All staff are expected to implement self-care strategies and access organizational staff support whenever needed.

If you are not offered a position or if you decline an offer of a position at the school the information stored in your recruitment record will be stored for 12 months, unless you advise us to destroy the records at an earlier time. At this time, the school will take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify the information as appropriate.
  7. The school may disclose personal and sensitive information for administrative, educational and support purposes (or may permit the information to be directly collected by third parties). This may include to: government departments; people providing administrative and financial services to the school; anyone you authorise the school to disclose information to; and anyone to whom the school is required or authorised to disclose the information to by law, including under child protection laws.
  8. Failure to provide the information to the school will affect the school’s ability to evaluate your application and may result in the recruitment process not proceeding.
  9. The school may also use cloud computing service providers to store personal information (which may include sensitive information) on their servers in the 'cloud'. These servers may be located in or outside Australia. This may mean that personal information may be stored or processed outside Australia.
  10. EREA’s Privacy Policy contains further information about its use of cloud and other third-party service providers.
  11. EREA’s Privacy Policy is accessible via the school website or from the school office. The Policy sets out how job applicants and employees may seek access to, and correction of their personal information which the school has collected and holds. However, access may be refused in certain circumstances such as where access would have an unreasonable impact on the privacy of others or may result in a breach of the School’s duty of care obligations. Any refusal will be notified in writing with reasons if appropriate.
  12. EREA’s Privacy Policy also sets out how job applicants and employees can make a complaint about a breach of the APPs and how the complaint will be handled.
  13.
