ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) Flexible Schools Ltd currently educates over 2,400 young people in 21 Flexible Learning Schools (12 based in Queensland and 9 other schools across Australia) and two Special Education Services Schools in NSW, with approximately 700 staff nationally. Flexi schools serve young people who experience complex educational, social or psychological situations which demand unique responses. They enable young people to engage in education in a supported learning environment through a methodology based on trauma informed practice, to co-create a Common Ground using Operation by Principles, in which the principles of Honesty, Respect, Participation, Safe & Legal are embedded. Our special schools serve young people with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The role of the Head of Learning is to work with colleagues to develop, maintain, evaluate and revise the curriculum, teaching and learning, assessment, and reporting and feedback practices at the school with reference to the Australian Curriculum, the Human Capabilities Framework and the EREA Liberating Education Framework. This role requires specific skills to model and support others who are working with First Nations Young people as well as working with young people who have specific learning needs. The position involves working directly with children and young people and therefore must be able to demonstrate an understanding of appropriate child safeguarding behaviours when engaging with children. All young people are owed a duty of care while in the supervision of the position.

Key Responsibilities include:
- Comprehensive knowledge of how to develop teaching strategies to improve young person learning using the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development characteristics of young people.
- Comprehensive knowledge of how to develop, maintain and review processes to support the engagement and full participation of young people with learning difficulties to ensure compliance with legislation associated with the NCCD.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and its application to a Special Assistance school setting, with a specific focus on how to creatively adapt the curriculum to best meet the needs of the young people.
- Specific in-depth knowledge of teaching strategies to improve young people’s progression in literacy, numeracy, digital literacy and other transferable skills.
- General knowledge and understanding of child safeguarding requirements that cover legal and policy requirements in an educational setting
ABOUT YOU
- Degree qualification in education.
- Registration or ability to obtain Queensland College of Teachers registration prior to commencement
- High level computer literacy and oral and written communication skills
- Drivers Licence
