ABOUT US
Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) Flexible Schools Ltd currently educates over 2,700 young people in 22 Flexible Learning Schools (12 based in Queensland and 10 other schools across Australia) and two Special Education Services Schools in NSW, with approximately 800 staff nationally. Flexi schools serve young people who experience complex educational, social or psychological situations which demand unique responses. They enable young people to engage in education in a supported learning environment through a methodology based on trauma informed practice, to co-create a Common Ground using Operation by Principles, in which the principles of Honesty, Respect, Participation, Safe & Legal are embedded. Our special schools serve young people with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities.
Deception Bay Flexible School offers a full-time and multiyear secondary education program for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling. Flexible Schools respond with a variety of flexible and innovative teaching and learning practices, including vocational planning and the development of social connectedness.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Inclusive Education Teacher reports to the Head of Campus and Area Principal. The role is to implement and maintain learning and social inclusion responses of the Deception Bay Flexible School. The position involves working directly with Young People on a daily basis and therefore must be able to demonstrate an understanding of appropriate child safeguarding behaviours when engaging with Young People.
This role involves partnering with a multi-disciplinary team to design practical and creative classroom adjustments, coordinating targeted support and small group interventions for young people, and connecting with families and specialists to build a strong, supportive and inclusive network.

ABOUT YOU
- Understanding of and commitment to the values of a Catholic educational system of schools in the Edmund Rice tradition.
- Able to demonstrate high-level communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills necessary to be successful in a complex and layered organisational structure.
- Demonstrated high levels of ability in developing and implementing a range of learning choices which meet the diverse characteristics, needs and learning styles of young people.
- Demonstrated ability to provide advice, support and mentorship to assist teachers & support Staff to enable them to work effectively with students who have identified learning needs;
- Demonstrated ability to support staff with the development and monitoring of consistent systems for use with Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD), Personalised (Individual) Learning Plans and Queensland Certificate of Individual Attainment (QCIA) processes, including verification/submissions.
- Demonstrated success in building relationships with young people at risk.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills in the context of relating to work colleagues, young people and parents in a culturally diverse environment.
- Commitment to participate in critical reflection around working together under four principles of operation: Respect, Safe and Legal, Honesty and Participation. (The principles establish a “common ground” among staff, young people and families, where the means to resolve conflict, negotiate learning, recognise rights, responsibilities and consequences are modelled and explored, both within the group and individual).
