ABOUT US
Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) Flexible Schools Ltd currently educates over 2,400 young people in 21 Flexible Learning Schools (12 based in Queensland and 9 other schools across Australia) and two Special Education Services Schools in NSW, with approximately 700 staff nationally. Flexi schools serve young people who experience complex educational, social or psychological situations which demand unique responses. They enable young people to engage in education in a supported learning environment through a methodology based on trauma informed practice, to co-create a Common Ground using Operation by Principles, in which the principles of Honesty, Respect, Participation, Safe & Legal are embedded. Our special schools serve young people with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Leader of Safeguarding NSW/TAS provides expert guidance on safeguarding matters to the Regional Director, Area Principals/Principals, and Heads of Campus, while also overseeing regional staff training in this area. The role supports data collection and analysis to inform the EREA Flexible Schools Ltd Board, CEO, and National Safeguarding Team in fostering a strong, proactive culture of safety across schools in the region.

KEY ATTRIBUTES AND EXPERIENCE:
- A deep understanding of, and commitment to, the values of Catholic education in the Edmund Rice tradition.
- Proven ability to lead and influence the development of safeguarding cultures within educational settings.
- Demonstrated expertise in implementing safeguarding policies and procedures aligned with national and state legislative requirements.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, essential for navigating complex, multi-layered organisational structures.
- A proactive commitment to the ongoing protection and wellbeing of children, young people, and enrolled adults
- Well-developed organisational and administrative capabilities to manage the responsibilities of the role effectively.
- In-depth knowledge of safeguarding practices, child development, and relevant legislation, including insights from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing complex and sensitive safeguarding matters, including investigations, with sound judgement and analytical skills.
- Relevant qualifications in areas such as Educational Leadership or Safeguarding, supported by substantial professional experience.
- Experience in staff supervision and/or leadership coaching, with a focus on capability building.
- Ability to balance continuous improvement with compliance to organisational and regulatory standards.
- Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively across diverse teams.
- Integrity, resilience, and the ability to foster trust and confidence through active listening and clear communication.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the foresight to anticipate issues and implement effective solutions.
