ABOUT US
Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) Flexible Schools Ltd currently educates over 2,400 young people in 21 Flexible Learning Schools (12 based in Queensland and 9 other schools across Australia) and two Special Education Services Schools in NSW, with approximately 700 staff nationally. Flexi schools serve young people who experience complex educational, social or psychological situations which demand unique responses. They enable young people to engage in education in a supported learning environment through a methodology based on trauma informed practice, to co-create a Common Ground using Operation by Principles, in which the principles of Honesty, Respect, Participation, Safe & Legal are embedded. Our special schools serve young people with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities.
ABOUT THE ROLE
In 2023, EREA Flexible Schools Ltd became its own entity through a restructure of Edmund Rice Education Australia. With a new, aligned and unified approach, and a growing demand for Flexible Schools across Australia, we are looking for a dynamic, passionate Senior Communications Officer to deliver clear, engaging, and purpose-driven communications across a range of channels - including digital, print, media, and events.
The Senior Communications Officer plays a pivotal role in amplifying the voices of our young people and schools. You’ll be crafting messages that speak to a wide range of internal and external audiences, always staying true to EREAFSL’s mission, brand, and values.

KEY ATTRIBUTES AND EXPERIENCE:
- At least three years’ experience in a senior position in communications, journalism, public relations or related fields.
- A clear demonstration of high-quality communications development, strategic thinking, team collaboration and social media management.
- Experience with education organisations or industry preferred, but not necessary.
- An appreciation of the importance of flexible education and the ways in which it can support and encourage young people in their lives.
- Understanding of and commitment to the values of a Catholic educational system of schools in the Edmund Rice tradition.
- An understanding of First Nations histories, cultures and current contexts, and a commitment to work meaningfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples for reconciliation and justice.
- Able to demonstrate the high-level communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills necessary to be successful in a complex and layered organisational structure.
- Strong time management and organisational skills.
- Highly developed skills in desktop publishing, design and database applications.
- An ability to work effectively in a team environment and contribute toward team outcomes
