ABOUT US
Edmund Rice Education Australia Flexible Schools Ltd (EREAFSL) currently educates over 2,700 young people in 22 Flexible Learning Schools (12 based in Queensland and 10 other schools across Australia) and two Special Education Services Schools in NSW, with approximately 800 staff nationally. Flexi schools serve young people who experience complex educational, social or psychological situations which demand unique responses. They enable young people to engage in education in a supported learning environment through a methodology based on trauma informed practice, to co-create a Common Ground using Operation by Principles, in which the principles of Honesty, Respect, Participation, Safe & Legal are embedded. Our special schools serve young people with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior Policy Officer leads the development, review and continuous improvement of policies, procedures and related resources to ensure the organisation’s policy framework is contemporary, consistent, compliant and aligned with strategic priorities.
The role works closely with Policy Owners, subject matter experts and senior stakeholders across national, regional and school operations to provide high-level policy advice, drive policy reform initiatives and support policy drafting, consultation, approval and publication processes.
The position also supports EREAFSL’s governance, safeguarding and school registration obligations by interpreting legislative and regulatory requirements, translating them into robust internal policy settings, and strengthening consistency, accountability and implementation across the organisation.

ABOUT YOU
Essential:
- Understanding of and commitment to the values of a Catholic educational system of schools in the Edmund Rice tradition.
- Demonstrated ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy, judgement and initiative in leading complex policy projects.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships, influence stakeholders and provide authoritative advice across all levels of a complex organisation.
- Highly developed communication, consultation and interpersonal skills.
- Strong research, analytical and policy writing skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Experience in leading the development, review, implementation and continuous improvement of policy documents.
- Experience maintaining and improving policy governance frameworks and document control processes.
- Ability to interpret legislative and regulatory requirements and translate them into clear, practical policy obligations, procedures and implementation guidance.
- Strong organisational and project management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Desirable:
- Knowledge and understanding of Flexible schools
- Experience working in a policy role supporting schools
