Teacher - St Mary's Flexible School

ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

St Mary's Flexible School is a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition. There are 22 Flexible Schools throughout Australia who offer a full-time and multiyear secondary education program for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling. Enrolled young people may express a broad range of complex education and social needs and flexible schools respond with a variety of flexible and innovative teaching and learning practices including vocational planning and the development of social connectedness.

The purpose of a Flexible School is to provide young people with a varied and holistic set of learning experiences supporting them to identify and pursue an individual transition to adulthood, employment, further education and training and social connectedness.

ABOUT THE ROLE
St Mary’s Flexible School is a registered and accredited Special Assistance School with small class sizes which employs a multidisciplinary team including a youth worker for each class. We have an emphasis on high quality teaching and learning, wellbeing support, and delivering qualifications that empower young people.

When you choose to work with us you will be joining a community of educators working alongside young people towards positive and hope–filled futures. We are proud to work in an inclusive and diverse culture which provides a place and opportunity for young people to engage with learning and community. Our Flexible Learning School operates on a common ground basis where young people are supported to determine their own pathways.

Joining us means joining a nationally recognised provider of alternative education, with over 22 schools across the country with a wealth of practice, knowledge, and professional learning to access. As part of the Edmund Rice community, we hold the values of Presence, Liberation, and Compassion for all.

We are looking for a teacher to join our team for an immediate start or commencing start of the 2025 school year. This full-time position works collaboratively with our Head of Campus at our St Mary’s Flexible Learning School.

Our school regularly engages in outdoor education and promotes high community involvement. Across our varied timetable, we offer young people bush cooking, mountain bike riding, swimming, and even a gym membership at the local gym! If regular, class-based teaching isn’t lighting you up like it used to, it is time for a change, this job builds great long term community connection. This will challenge, excite, and ignite your desire to take young people on lofty leaps in their academic and personal development.

The Teacher reports to the Head of Campus and Area Principal. They have delegated responsibility to develop and maintain learning and social inclusion responses of the campus. This includes:

  • Planning, preparation and delivery of effective learning and teaching programs for young people.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of the EREAFS objectives and planning.
  • Works collaboratively with all staff to provide a safe, inclusive work environment for staff and young people.
  • Is proactive in building relationships with young people, families/carers, and the community to ensure the best outcomes are achieved for each young person.
