ABOUT US
Wollongong Flexible School offers a full-time and multiyear secondary education program for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling. Young people typically express a broad range of complex education and social needs, and Flexible Schools respond with a variety of flexible and innovative teaching and learning practices, including vocational planning and the development of social connectedness.
The purpose of an Edmund Rice Education Flexible School is to provide young people with a varied and holistic set of learning experiences which enable them to identify and pursue an individual transition to adulthood, employment, further education and training and social connectedness.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Wellbeing Leader is responsible for overseeing the Wellbeing Program at Wollongong Flexible School, ensuring that all students are supported to feel safe, connected, and ready to learn. This includes overseeing case management for young people, coordinating mental health support initiatives, and leading a team of youth workers to deliver high-quality, responsive wellbeing services.
The role involves developing and implementing wellbeing strategies and programs that promote social, emotional, and mental health for all students. A key focus is leading the school to embed trauma-informed and strengths-based practices into daily routines and classroom environments.

ABOUT YOU
- Tertiary degree in Social Work, Youth Work, Welfare, Education or related field
- Experience and/or demonstrated capacity leading, mentoring and delegating to teams in the wellbeing and/or education sector.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and stressful situations while practising and promoting self-care strategies
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including those required to facilitate meetings and manage staff.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and engage effectively with young people with complex needs
- Strong conflict resolution, organisational, and administrative skills
- Ability to develop clear plans for student wellbeing and coach staff to implement them successfully
- Current WWCC and unrestricted NSW driver’s license
Desirable
- One or more specialist engagement skills from the following is highly desirable:
- Adventure based learning;
- Sport;
- Creative Arts;
- Music; and/or;
- Cultural Knowledge
- A Light Rigid Drivers’ License (able to drive a 22 seater bus) or willingness to obtain
